gas peddel sticks down S.O.S.

My 1998 XC 70 gas peddel sticks down. My daughter was driveing it when it happend and almost hit a car.

NEED advice on what to do.

Check the cable where it goes to the engine and see if it is broke.

Also make sure the floor mat isn't holding it down.
