Gear box oil type question
Hi,
Could someone guide me please? I wanted to change my gear box oil on my XC70 2000 with 120 000 miles and called Volvo in Brossard/Quebec. They told me it costs 450$ (300$ oil and 150$ labour). I went to another garage and the mechanic changed me the oil for 220$ (oil 76$, additive 25 and labour) with Valvoline Maxlife. Before the oil change, I told the mechanic the Volvo story and the fact he must put only synthetic oil into XC gear box, due to high friction and heat. The mechanic told me his system (I suppose Alldata) said it's OK to put Valvoline Maxlife, due to my high mileage after the oil change.
I am worried about the quality of this gear box oil. Should I change it to Toyota iv or Volvo AW5 oil? I don't even know if it's synthetic or not. What can happen if I don't change it?
Best regards,
Radu
