Hello I have a 98 v70 Xc
I have a few questions about this car. First of all I love this car in fact it's one of the best cars I've ever purchased. I wish I did a little bit more research on her. A few days ago I noticed this piece that looks like a gas can hanging from The right passenger side of my wife's car. My local parts stores didn't have any manuals for her car on the shelves. I am wondering what this part is. I took a few pictures of the gas like can and it location. Can you guys help me out?

Didn't drive far just pulled into the driveway. also can anyone Identify the ring/whirl sound that's coming from the same area? It starts when ever the car is started but stops maybe 1 minute into the car running.

Manuals for this On-Line are $$$ but you can use the Haynes Manual for '98 850- is usefull for a lot of basic stuff - Im looking at your Digital photos & trying to compare w'/ our '98 XC - I'l let you know if I can come up w/info - looks like a Previous owner Modification?

 

Okay Thank you. There were a several other things added so it might be possible. I found some type of cable/telephone back in the cargo area.

 

I compared view underneath our car and see only fuel return vapor canister in this area - your previous owner may have had something modified on the car , may have modified the exhaust or added a heat shield - - does it have some gas- aided shocks in rear ?

Another suggestion about manuals - when I enquire at volvo dealership & order parts, I usually ask the person at the parts desk to print out that page for me (From their CD-Rom) so I can get the "exploded diagram" Drawing of the Part I'm asking about . They almost always comply , cause it costs them nothing - but to me it's a free page from a $3,000 CD-ROM

 

Hmm that's weird. I've been driving around with it off with no issues. I will take a look at the shocks tomorrow morning. I still need to get to the Stealer to get a replace fob. Maybe I can ask them about this canister.

 

thats definitely not factory!!
