Help! Tailgate will not close / Tailgate 2nd action reject
Hello all,
New to Volvo and to the site. Thank you in advance for your help.
I recently purchased a US 2011 XC70 T6 w/ 125k miles. Very nicely kept car.
I bought it with a known issue with the power tailgate.
The 2nd action during the closing sequence of the power tailgate works intermittently.
The tailgate will close from the fully open position. The second “pull closed” action will completely close the tailgate but will then immediately release the tailgate after about 1-2 seconds to an ajar or unlocked position. In other words, it looks closed/secure but is not…
The dash will give me an “open tailgate” message.
The previous owner stated that he thought the issue was cold temperature related.
The power tailgate DID work in the sellers heated garage.
The power tailgate did NOT work after the car sat outside (-5°C / 23°F) for :20 min.
With the tailgate ajar, I drove the car home for about :45 minutes with the heat on full. I Pulled over and the tailgate closed normally with no visible problems.
I looked at parts online and saw a couple different assemblies/modules. I’d rather not start indiscriminately throwing parts at it especially when some of them are as pricey as they are.
What you guys think?
