How does the XC70 perform on the street?
anything can take a mustang in the corners. My stang is for strait line perfomance.
I'm trying to make a decison on the xc or a V70. If I had the extra cash I would get the V70r.

Me myself I would get a V70 T-5.
I like the V70 over the XC One Im not really one for AWD. And also once you hit I believe 20 MPH the AWD turns off then you only have FWD.
Me stang Handles pretty good but only because it is lowered 2 inches and has urethane bushings in the front.

I have a 2006 XC70, That I bought 11/30/05, my understanding is that the AWD, kicks in when it is needed, and in my model year its timming is in about 6 seconds from the first skid... I drive my car in the country and also in SF, and I love to tear around the city, I have had good luck in both enviornments, The car is great for city driving on the hills and corners great. These are just my opinions.
We've owned our XC70 for about a year and put 15,000 miles on it so far. It handles everythingvery well. I'm amazed it has about the ground clearance my Durango used to have, is full time AWD, gets 10+ more MPG, is faster, rides better and is quieter. Oh and it's safer too.
My 99 xc70 is wonderful. The AWD is mostly a front drive unless you break traction in the front The rear drive shaft incorporates a viscous coupling which reacts with different wheels speeds. I've tried to get it to break the tires with not much luck (a good thing). I would only use it off road if the road is a smooth dirt road. Even though the clearance isn't that bad the long wheel base counters the clearance plus approach angles are bad. I recommend limiting the off road driving. Unles you want cracked flares and bumpers. The one thing I would like to change is the Springs/shocks. If I can convinved my wife, i would add some sport springs and shocks on it to stiffen the ride quality. the car has a tendacy to get some body roll in hard turns and recovery movements. (i just installed new stock shocks with not much approvement). Overall it's great. ride good for the size of vehicle....
