Hi, I am new to this forum but am already finding it useful in reviving my 98 XC70 w/179 K miles, 2nd engine, tranny and shaft.

Currently there is a loud thump ( as if hitting underbody of car with hammer)
under my seat when I back up and then take off in forward Is there someone trapped under my car? No but..

I had it checked at dealer and they say it is the torque rod bushing.

Any experience of that out there?

I saw some diagrams on europarts.com but could not tell what exactly they were talking about that could make the sound under the floor.

 

After observing my car being driven by my wife with hood open, I saw the upper rear torque rod bushing moving back and forward when she changed direction. This cold be normal but I heard the thump or clunk just forward of, or at the rear end of the drive train. It is most pronounced when the wheel is turned when backing and going forward. It happens not at the beginning of movement but after the car rolls a few feet.

Am I the only XC70 owner that has come by this problem?
