2008 XC90 3.2 FWD. The sound stops when I pull oil dipstick. Was told to clean or replace crankcase box under intake manifold, but no other directions given. Only thing I see below are the alternator and oil filter housing. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

 

There is no pcv box under the intake manifold on these engines. Either you read the engine type wrong or someone gave you the wring information. Either way you will need to replace the pcv box that is located on top of the engine. It will be the black box on the back of the engine under the engine cover. All you are going to need is a T30 and ratchet with a small extension to replace the oil trap box.

 

Thanks Damien. I did take that box off yesterday and tried cleaning it but still had the loud whistle. I will replace and see if that helps. Thanks again for quick response.

 

Replaced oil trap($197.00/20 minutes) and all is well. Thanks Damien
