Thought I'd post just the light problem and see if anyone has had the same issue. I just bought a 2002 x/c, which starts and runs fine. But 90% of the time when I turn the key the only light I get is a check engine light and the seat belt light. They both go out as soon as I start the car. None of the gauges work, and none of the instrument panel lights turn on. If I turn on the high beams the little blue indicator comes on, but thats it. The other dash lights (radio, dome lights, heater, etc.) all work but nothing on the instrument cluster lights up. All exterior lights work fine. Anyone have this issue or know anything about it?

My 04 XC70 had a similar thing happen today. Had brake failure message, no temp gauge, speedo or tach. Breaks seemed to work fine so I took a chance and drove to dealer who said my instrument cluster was probably at fault to the tune of about $1700 or $1000 for rebuild. Then I restarted car and all worked fine. I have seen articles online stating that it could be bad solder joint on cluster. I may take a try at removing and trying to repair (resoldering a bad connection isn't rocket science).

 

I am having the same issue on my 02 xc70 does anybody out there have a wiring schematic, or any further help on this issue? Anything would be greatly appreciated.
