I've read on these forums that P0422 is usually either an O2 sensor or the catalytic converter. The CEL on my 2001 XC70 came on about 2 weeks ago and I pulled a P0422 code. Then a few days later the CEL disappeared. Basically it comes back about every few days and then goes away for a few days. Does the fact that the CEL comes and goes suggest that an O2 sensor is malfunctioning. Wouldn't the CEL come on and stay on if it was the cat?

This XC70 has 112K miles on it.

i have the same code, took it to the dealer today and they said it was the cat.

im not replacing it! if you must though i sugest taking to an exhaust shop and getting a universal one put on.
