99 v70xc timing marks on the cams are at 12 o'clock, cannot locate crank position marks. any ideas? I was told the marks are on the belt cover, nothing there.

Unless they changed them dramatically from '98 to '99, the timing marks on the camshaft gears will be at 45 degrees pointed up & towards each other. They will point at the small corners opposing them on the upper cover. In other words the rear shaft timing mark would be positioned at 1 1/2 o'clock, and the front shaft would be positioned at 10 1/2 o'clock. Now look for the crankshaft gear marks (hard to see w/o very good lighting) that should straddle the raised mark on the engine. Sorry for no pix.

Use the camshaft gears locking tool from IPD. It's the best.
