Default Torque Converter?

I am the proud owner of a 2000 XC 70. I bought it from a dealer with 90K on it. It now has 155,000 miles. I started to notice a vibration during lazy upshifts and downshifts. This only happens at highway speeds. I brought it to the dealer and first they said it was the angle gear. They replaced it to the tune of $3000. Vibration still exists. I brought it back to the dealer and the tech said it was probably the drive shaft to the rear wheels. When I dropped it off to have the driveshaft rebuilt, they told me that their head technician believed it was not the drive shaft but the torque converter. And while they are changing the torque converter, we might as well rebuild the transmission. Not being able to afford this job, I wanted to try to confirm what the problem is. I removed the driveshaft and found that the vibration went away. I looked at the engine mounts as well. The torque strut bushing was completely shot, so I changed it. I also changed the front engine mount. I am now experiencing a hesitation when the car is accelerating. I am thinking that the torque converter is slipping. Maybe the head technician was right afterall. I changed the tranny fluid hoping that would help. It is less pronounced now but still hesitates, almost like a misfire. My question is:

Am I stupid to change the torque converter without servicing the transmission?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Default RE: Torque Converter?

Have you done a tune up lately to the vehicle? A hesitation during acceleration could be a transmission issue, but it could also be due to worn spark plugs, clogged air filter, old fuel filter, etc....

Default Torque Converter

Found my old post...it was not the torque converter...it was bad inner and outer tie rod ends that would shake when shifting. Tirewall
