I've got a 02 xc70 with a check engine light on. On cars I've owned in the past I've been able to look up a procedure for getting the trouble code to be displayed on the dash board. Is there a sequence to turning the ignition on and off to get the code to be displayed, or do I have to go to the dealer or someone with a code reader scanner?

You need a scanner to pull the codes.
