Default XC70 Drivers door handle external not working

Drivers door handle (RHS) external not working, can open it fine from inside the car....and locking mechanism works fine manually and by remote. Handle feels loose and non engaging. I removed inside door panel yesterday and cant see much, reluctant to explore further until I know the problem. Also removed door handle from outside, looks fine, no linkages...just wiring?

Any suggestions folks?

Its a 2014 XC70........well no mechanical connection on my external handle, maybe a bit has broken off. Thinking I should investigate the LHS passenger door for comparison.

The outer handle touches the inner mechanism that pulls a cable attach to the door latch mechanism. Years ago I had a car where that cable was disconnected and the door would not open from the outside. (customers remote was bad so they were locked out of the car) Not too bad to get to, but it's unusual how it is put together.

Take door panel off, remove window glass, take off outer door handle - then from the pictures you see the whole "cartridge", the window regulator and door latch stuff comes out as one part. The inner (outside) door handle mechanism is attached to the cartridge and if you try to get the cartridge out without following directions you will break something. I've circled the cable that was loose (or it could have been the longer #10 cable, it's been a few years)

Edit: included how to get door glass out picture

Default XC70 Driver door not opening from outside

Thanks for that info Hoonk, that gives me confidence to pull the door apart this weekend and determine what cable (or other part) needs changing.....I might give Volvo Perth a call to see if they stock the cable #10. But will proceed regardless, can always just ocky strap the door!!

I think that's the locking cable, and #14 is the opening cable
