Default 05 service light interval

So, my wife's regular service message was not reset the last time she took it in to get serviced. I know how to reset the message, but I'm curious as to the interval behind the message. It's actually been quite a while since it was in, so I'm curious what will happen if I reset it now. Does it have a hard number of miles that triggers it? For instance, if it's been 1k miles since her service, and I reset it today, will it trigger again in 5k miles, thus really going off after 6k miles from last service? Should I just leave it alone and manually track the miles for next service? If I reset it today and take it in before it goes off again, what will happen?

thanks

I'd just reset it now expecting it to reset in 5K miles. I don't think a different of 1K miles will upset your service routine but you can always put a note in your personal calendar when the mileage is due and then reset again after the service is done (doesn't matter if it didn't come on, its just a counter).

7500 miles, 1 year, or 750 engine hours, whichever comes first.
