Hey, all. Saw an 05 XC90 T6 listed and ran the carfax - saw that the auto trans pan gasket was replaced around 8k miles ago, has around 82k on the odometer. I assume this is tied to the trans issues I’ve heard so much about? Trying to determine if she’s even worth looking at.

That 6 cyl twin turbo car uses a common GM transmission that is known to fail. In the 2004 xc90t6 I had leased from new - the transmission failed at 22000 miles. Volvo's instructions for transmission replacement include replacing the transmission oil coolers and lines - to make sure to get all of the metal shavings out - so you don't damage the new trans. I have replaced many at my shop - the customers were not happy.

What else can I say - A buddy bought a 2004 t6 and kept it - he had two transmissions put in his - first he tried a cheap rebuild, that failed 20k later on a trip to Florida. Had a factory unit put in (on his trip) and he babied the transmission for the next x years until he sold it @120k.

I would run away as fast as you can. -
