Default Thinking of buying an xc90!

How do you guys like them? I want one to do camping and to tow a trailer 3500lbs or less but it will be a daily driver as well. What engine options are there for these?

Ive always owned a BMW or VW/Audi vehicle so please excuse my ignorance to volvo's. Always admired the Volvo suv's.

Default I just went thru this ...

Just bought an 05 XC90 a week ago today. IMO, they are best bang for the buck, even versus MDX (my other main choice; Pilot drives like crap, X5 too small, Q7 too $$$$$, CX9 too "Mazda"...). MDX is a bit more "sporty", XC is def more "luxury". Way more impressed w/ XC overall. I also come from Audi (my DD is B5 A4 1.8T w/ K04 turbo kit). Engine choices- from 03-04, it was only 2.5L I5 turbo 220hp 5spd auto (all figures are approx) or 2.9L I6 twin turbo 268hp 4 spd auto (the "T6"). 2.5 is a bit underpowered, even without towing, but is bulletproof reliable, good trans, and able to increase power by chipping. T6 addresses the power deficit, but loses a gear in the trans, which has horrible reliability. Most (but not all) will recommend avoiding the T6 for that reason. In late 05, XC offered a V8 option, 311hp 325tq, made by Yamaha, mated to 6pd trans. A silky dream, great reliability, and same gas mileage and weight as the T6. Its what i went with. Fan-friggin-tastic. Drove the 2.5 (too weak), but never drove the T6 (prolly "just right") but the V8 is perfection. Plenty of power, great growl at WOT, plenty of gear in trans, comes with 3rd row seats and AWD, w/ optional nav, dvd... just a helluva deal at around 20K today (or less). And for towing, i'd imagine thats what you want. Has a 5K lb rating.

Cant believe no one else replied to this post. I just joined today! Beginning to regret I did... forum seems lame. I'm over on SwedeSpeed also; seems a more thriving community. Unless I'm missing something here... A simple question like his should have a dozen people all over it.

Default cost

I was shopping for 04-05. In my area (PA), you can get a 2.5 w/ ~100Kmi for 13, lower miles and T6's go for around 14-15, sometimes 16 for better mileage/year. I only found 2 V8's and both were 17.5, so you do pay for it, probably around $2K. But both V8s were fully loaded, 7pass, AWD, dvd and navigation, so I'm sure those goodies are part of the $2K. So maybe call it a grand for those options, and a grand for the V8 motor? But of course those two things cant be separated, so be prepared for the $2K.
