Im looking to wake up the performance of my 3.2l xc90. Are there any recomended chips or tuning options, or even i take or exhaust mods. Just would like a little more out of it if possible. Thanks

 

Contrary to popular belief, the original manufacturer has already tuned the engine for maximum performance, power, emissions and economy. Tuning chips are a feel good item and I've read testing where they were found to do essentially nothing. Some people will mess with an exhaust and call it "free flowing" but in the end, it is just louder.

The 3.2 liter was designed when Ford owned the brand and is shared in other makes including Land Rover of that vintage. I have had several 3.2 liter engines in Volvos and they are very responsive.

You are driving a 4500 lb vehicle so let's understand that is about even with the weight of a 1976 Chevrolet Caprice. That car had a minimum 5.7 liter engine putting out about 145 hp and got 12 mpg. Yours puts out 235 hp and is better on gas.

If you want more power in the large package, the V8 comes in at 311 hp.
