mi 08 XC90 is having a hard time shifting. it usually happens after I've been driving for a bit. when i first start it, it shifts very smooth. I was told it's the shift solenoid.
How hard is it to do it my self? could it be something else?

6 Cyl 3.2 Auto FWD

 

A good first step would be a scan with VIDA or a compatible scan tool. That scan might point you in the right direction. No indication of mileage but 12 years at 12 k miles is about 150k miles. There's no dipstick so it's hard to easily check the condition of the fluid, but a simple drain and fill (using the correct fluid only) will give you a sample of fluid.

 

162K miles. I'll go check for code to see what i get. I had the fluid checked about a year ago and it was fine.
