Default 2003 volvo xc90 turns over but wont start

hi, im hoping someone can help me out , i went to start my 2003 volvo xc90, and engine turns over but wont start, does anyone know what could be the problem ,if this is a common problem for volvo xc90,s, any help would be much appreciated

It's a common problem for all automobiles. Probably the most common.


The manufacturer will always write a diagnostic procedure for this in their manuals, and they're all fairly common in that you want to see if you have fuel and fuel pressure as specified at the injectors. This is fairly simple to do.


If you are okay on fuel, then during cranking you want to see if the engine computer has adequate information to provide ignition and fuel injector operation. If you have a scan tool, you can see what the ECM sees and make some judgements based on that. If you don't have a scan tool, it would be reasonable to verify that the spark plugs are sparking. You can use an extra spark plug for that and hook it up to one of the coils.


They make a little light bulb called a noid light to use to determine whether the computer is trying to "light up" a coil or a fuel injector. You probably won't need that.
