2004 XC 90 5 cycl stalls then won't start
My XC 90 with 45K miles simply stalled and then w/n start. It was like it ran out of gas and then the starter was stuck because I heard a hum whenever I tried to start it. It didn't run out of gas though and I really don't understand how the two problems happened the same time. The next it started just fine. Any ideas?
Since I am not privy to the XC90s, I can only assume that the problem was caused either by the fuel pump malfunction or a trouble in the electronic engine control. You can visit an auto parts shop such as AutoZone and have the system diagnosed for free (if you are in the States). Or, you can visit the dealer and have them diagnose the system. Should you decide to take the latter route, make sure to talk & act like you know what you are talking about or they will say you need a new engine. Is the Check Engine Light on?
I wonder if the wheel speed sensor recall is affecting the engine performance:

Wait for replies from other XC90 owners or Moderator Tech.
Sorry I could not help you better.
