Unhappy 2005 V8 XC90 Bushings inside engine need replaced $4000 repair

My 2005 V8 XC90 started make a loud noise a week ago. No Check engine light at any time and all regular maintenance has been done. I took it in and I am told that the bushings inside the engine have to be replaced and of course it is out of warranty. The V8 engine is no longer made and I am thinking this is the reason why. I called Volvo USA and they tell me they haven't heard of this problem, but the dealer is telling me that it is quite common. All Volvo USA can do is let the Volvo regional reresentative evaluate the repair on an individual basis and determine if there is reason for assistance. I am wondering how common this problem really is? Is this the reason why Volvo went away from the V8? The local dealer tells me that inside the engine a part is suppose to be round and it turns into an oval shape and that is what must be replaced.
