Hi Guys,

We have an 05 XC90 V8. Bought it new back in 05. Tailgate won't open. Told from dealer that there is no manual release either... and that they may have to bust into the tailgate to get it to open. I'm thinking of repairing it myself... but I have no idea what it could be. When I unlock the trunk using the key fob... I hear the "servo" sound... but it does not unlock the trunk anymore. The trunk handle has that "soft" feel as if it were still locked. Nothing can budge it.

Anyone know what usually causes this... what the repair (and repair procedure) might be? I am absolutely amazed that Volvo has no manual release for the trunk... doesn't seem very "Volvo" to me... or is there?

Make sure the handle isn't rusted. It's common to develop rust and not easily allow it to return to the rest position. You have to force it fully back and then try opening. If thats not it, it sounds like a bad motor.
