Hello all,

I was given an XC90 for free, timing belt snapped and they said after that it only ran on 2 cylinders, so I am assuming bent valves. My question is, is it possible to remove the head while leaving the motor in situ?

I haven't been able to find many resources on this... It is the B5254T2.

Yes, don't remove the turbo/exhaust from the car. Simply loosen the 10 manifold nuts and that will give you enough room to slide the head off the exhaust studs. You will probably damage the turbo oil drain tube oring in the process, but that's an easy fix/replacement. Find a machine shop that has done these volvos before - the new valves will need to be adjusted and may need new guides. Use new torque to yield head bolts. You might want to redo the complete pcv system while you are there - they commonly clog and cause major oil leak problems onto your new timing belt.
