Unhappy 2007 3.2L "Over Voltage"

That is quite the scare getting that error "Over Voltage Stop Safely" combined with a whole Christmas tree lighten up in the dashboard.
Gave it 5 min rest while browsing the forums and then bee-lined the last Mile home.

Got to figure out whether to replace the alternator or just the voltage regulator. Would be checking the voltage in the cig-lighter be enough ?

I will try going by this manual I found.

Any recommendations on troubleshooting ?

J.

How do I check the alternator for damage ? Take it in to an automotive shop ?

[quick update]
Alternator was also draining the battery while car was just sitting there. When getting bids in to replace the alternator one shop wanted to add the removal of the intake manifold as an extra cost, i.e. alternator replacement ($130) plus manifold removal ($140).
I went to a different shop and they told me that they replaced the alternator without taking the intake manifold off. How they did it - I don't know. But they are a reputable company with warranty here in town.

Once the alternator was replaced all error messages seized and car is working fine now.

All good now - especially since I realized that my leak was the windshield and not the sunroof drain tube today. No water in my car anymore ! YAY

The intake does come off the replace the alternator but it is included in the labor time. The intake comes off in a few minutes and it is a lot easier to remove the intake than to try to get the alternator out without doing so (if it is even possible).

Either way, glad its fixed for you.
