2007 Volvo XC90 rebuilt transmission
Hi everyone,
Last year I made the choice to have my transmission rebuilt instead of buying a new one. Since then, I've talked to another Volvo shop in Calgary and they mentioned that of the 5 rebuilds they've heard of, all have had issues within 2 yrs.
Current day - my transmission seal blew and puked out all of the fluid, burning everything. I've taken it back to the guy who rebuilt it and after taking it apart, this is what he had to say after sending me an image of a blackened ring (I'll try to attach if necessary). Keep in mind that the tranny rebuild is still under warranty:
"Thats your pump bushing
The black indicates electrical arc
Somehow, the engine block was not adequetly grounded. It was pulling from the transmission. The arcing burnt the pump bushing, which fried the seal, dumping the fluid. When the fluid level got too low, it slipped like a bitch, burning clutch plates.
It fkd the pump with it
Ug
Have to study wiring diagrams and figure out the solution"
My question is - how accurate are these statements? I know nothing of these transmissions or transmissions in general. It sounds to me like he is blaming the failure on something unrelated to the rebuild and that ultimately he will reneg on the warranty.
