2007 XC90 3.2 transmission hard clunk

2007 XC90 3.2 transmission hard clunk
66,000 miles with all scheduled maintenance - FWD
Problem: downshifting to pass at higher speeds produces a violent clunk in the transmission upon shifting to the lower gear. No slipping. Started happening about 5000 miles ago.
Everyday city/highway driving is without issue. It only happens when we need to accelerate hard in traffic while already going 55+ mph.
Cause for concern?
