2007 XC90

I have this kind of a dash stereo configuration:




And i want to either replace this unit with a double din for a touch screen video Nav system (preferred) or if there is one that pops up on top of the dash but also can pop down. But I don't want to loose any capabilities the premium sound has. Has anyone done this recently?

 

To get a taste of what changing a head unit in a xc90 involves look at this post. It can be done - but is not straight forward. Volvo did offer a pop up navigation screen/system in the center speaker grill, a reverse camera view was possible also - except the screen took so long to rise you were already driving away by the time the screen was up. I had a Ipod interface from IMIV.ca (not sure if they are sold anymore) that would display movies/video on that screen in one of my cars - And I have seen aftermarket solutions installed in place of the Volvo screen. Don't forget you like to use the steering wheel controls also that you might lose.

Sheesh... that looks like a lot of work!

 

It's all about what it's worth to you. I've seen some very nice aftermarket sound systems/bluetooth/nav in Volvos - but I would never spend that much on a 15 year old car.
