Default Airbag light ON after battery replaced

I found a XC90 and it looks good, low mileage, etc.

The only thing is the Airbag light is ON and the dealer told me that it will have to be re-set because that's a common problem with volvo after the battery is replaced.

The battery (he said) was dead so he had to jump-start it and then the light came on.

Is this true or should I avoid the car?

On carfax looks good - no accident, 1 owner, etc.

Thanks!

If the airbag light is on, then there is a problem that needs fixed and it's not related to the battery drain. You really don't want an XC90. I like Volvo and all, but these vehicles are not very reliable. Just my 2 cents as a Volvo mechanic..............

It is a very common problem for the SRS codes needing to be reset after jump starting the car or replacing the battery. The codes are set due to a voltage issue.

Ive owned 4 volvos and have had problem in 2 of them with the airbag sensor not resetting (after battery dead, and once after placing a heaving object in passenger seat, the light did not reset after taking it off).

that said, i still love my volvos!

If you have an OBD2 diagnostic tool, plug it in and most will tell you why the indicator has come up, SRS is a common problem as already stated, my mates dad's S60 had it.

hi, I have a 2008 V-70, washed all carpets inside with water, started car in morning, lots of water inside on windows, about 1/2 litre if I was to guess, air bag light was on, I put ODB II code reader on; diagnosis; low voltage detected, cleared code, checked alternator voltage, 14V. Can't get ride of the airbag light, any idea. I think your low voltage theory is correct. Can you please advise on how to turn light off ?

2 year old posts are still useful. I'm having the same issue. Just received the car today on a truck. SRS module was just replaced by the previous owner 2k miles ago. Any other guidance is greatly appreciated.

Same happened to me, just clean the posts and clamps. Scratch up the inside of the clamps and tighten very firmly on the posts.... Should solve the problem!

a dealer can read and clear the error which is causing the light to illuminate. the airbag warning light system is unique (not standarized like the engine error light, which is stadandarized across all makes and any parts store or shop has the scan/reset tool for it).

I have the same message and yes, I did just replaced the battery and couple of days later the code appeared. Everybody talks about resetting the codes, I have a friend who can clear the codes but will the airbag be in working condition though? I mean, I don't need just the warning lights off, I am sure just like you I want to have my air bags operational.

on my xc90 2006 airbag error comes up after removing the fuse mistakenly.
only front passenger side, I tried turning on and off airbag by the switch next to glove box but the error remains and passenger air bag stays off.

After a SRS code is set - (by a mistake such as your circumstance or a real connection/component failure) the code must be read by a compatible scan tool to be able to erase it.
