Hi everyone, New to me is this XC90. I'm from England and had an S40 and loved it.
Have a question about the Climate control system. I live in the South so you might know about the heat here. I was using the AC and it just stopped working. When I got to were I was going I had to get something out of the passenger seat and noticed that there was a small amount of water that had come down from the back of the glove box. I cleaned out the sensor slots very carefully but didn't have anything luck getting any cool air although the fan was working, when I turned it on. Any ideas would be helpful. BTW the first thing I did when I got the suv was oil change, and changed filters.
What engine? A common thing is the compressor clutch wears (on some models) and the clutch gap becomes too large for the magnetic field to close the clutch. The solution is to "reshim" the clutch. That is remove shims to make the gap correct. This happens after maybe 10 years of wear. Usually the ac works for a while then stops cooling once the compressor heats up and the gap becomes larger.
Just read your location -(saw england then Atlanta, have lived there for over 50 years - so yes it can be hot) If your AC stops cooling after driving x minutes, and shorter x the hotter it is outside - I would suspect ac clutch gap. Unless you have the inline 6cyl - Those clutches have some sort of "noise suppression" non-metallic ring in the clutch that wears and comes loose, preventing the clutch from engaging. A new Clutch or simply removing the displaced suppression ring parts solves the problem. (if that's your problem.)
Here's a picture of the inside on a clutch with a broken piece of "noise suppression" ring (on a 6 cylinder) That ring comes loose, jams the gap and prevent s the clutch from engaging.
