Default Car starts without key

Hi, I have a 2019 xc90. I left the house today and drove about 20 miles away when I stopped and went to get out and lock car I realised I'd left the car in the house (it has a key locator fob). Questions is why did it let me start the car and drive away when the key was not in the car, additionally when I realised I'd left it in the house it let me start the car too then and I drove home to get it, so I did a 40 mile round trip with no car key. How is that?
I used to have an x5 and it would not let me start thr car if the key wasnt in the car somewhere.
I'm puzzled and concerned as it doesn't seme very secure.

You sure you don't have another key in the car somewhere? This isn't possible without one.

Hi no def not in the car I drove home and both sets of keys were at home.
one thing I'm thinking so when I first got home (before I did the 20 mile trip) I just dropped my shopping off, i didnt close my driver door or lock the car, i turned the ignition of but that was it, it was then that I took the key into the house and left it their. Has the car someone not registered that there is no key, I'd of thought it looked for this everything I try to turn the ignition on regardless.

There is a small button less key tag that can be purchased it was sometimes provided in a nice presentation box that could be in the cabin somewhere that will allow keyless starts
