Climate Control Blower fan not going OFF after Jump starting.
Hi guys,
2006 xc90 2.5T. About 2 weeks ago, my wife was stranded as without warning the battery went flat. No sign of sluggish start or anything. She gets a friend and they jump start the car and come home. Radio was not coming on. Read somewhere about a battery changing procedure - connect battery when key in lights on position II. Did this and Radio is now alive. However, climate control fan is not going off when you switch off car and pull key out. Only way to switch it off is to pull the fuse. After some time when you put fuse back, it will work ok for a few hours then it will not go off again. I'm assuming the jump start knocked something off but not sure what it is. The thermistor? Fan relay? Software reload required?
Any assistance appreciated. Cheers!

The heater fan electronic resistor controls the fan speed. They can go bad and fail to control the fan speed. You should scan all the control units first to see what codes are stored. You should be able to control the ac fan (unless the electronic resistor is bad) with a compatible scan tool. The resistor is mounted underneath the fan motor and unfortunately to remove the fan motor without breaking anything on a xc90 only requires dashboard and ventilation box removal. Fan resistor replacement on other Volvos using the same ventilation box (svxc60/70) takes about 1.5 hours. There is one fan mounting screw that you can't get to on a xc90 - others have broken something to get the motor out - and reinstalled the motor with one missing screw.
