Hello,
I am replacing the control arms on my xc90, I am having a hell of a time trying to remove one of the horizontal bolts on the control arm, the one on the left towards the rear of the car. There is very little space, I cannot fit the impact or any socket for that matter. I was able to get an offset wrench (12-point, could not get an offset 6-point) The bolt head started to get rounded at the corners so decided to stop and come here for help. I have seen other methods like, using a chisel, heat (last resource), etc. I have been using blaster spray, dw40, hitting it, etc. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Forget the WD40. PB Blaster is your friend.
Using a little heat to get it warn and soaking it with the blaster will help pull the blaster into the threads as it cools.

 

are you using high quality tools? I have found that high end 12 point wrenches are much less likely to round off bolts than cheap ones. you can also try a crowfoot wrench (napa sells set - basically a wrench head that you use with a ratchet and extension). I have done this job but it has been a couple years and can't picture these bolts. maybe post photo? are these the bolts where there is a brake line or something limiting access?

 

I just did this on my car last weekend, I had similar problem with the brake caliper, driver side. hard to tell what car you have, (If you add your car to the signature,you wont have to tell everyone in every post)

I did see some post's were the engine may need to be pressed up with a 2x4, and a bottle jack, I was lucky I was able to use a extension to my ratchet (Lug-net wrench).
