Default A costly DIY mistake

I have a huge dilemma. My wife's 2007 XC90 3.2 ac compressor failed. The dealer estimated about $1800 to repair. Since I'm good with a wrench, I bought a remanufactured compressor off Ebay $189, an expansion valve and a dryer. Well, I had the freon recovered, then went to install the new parts. Well to my dismay, the expansion valve was located inside the fire wall behind the dash board. The drawings I had said it was located on the fire wall in the engine compartment..NOT. So I did not replace that part. In addition, I could not get the dryer off to replace because I couldn't get to the bolt that held the ac pipe on the bottom mount without take the whole front of the car apart. So, I installed the compressor took it to a shop and the vacuumed and recharged the ac system. It worked better than new! For two days, now it just quit blowing cold air. I assume since I did not replace the dyer and expansion valve some dirt got into the compressor. Now, I guess I will have to bite the bullet and have it done by a shop.

The better chance is that you have a leak somewhere and lost your freon. Get it recharged and add some dye to the system so you can identify the leak. May not be that bad.

I also very much doubt it is a problem with the expansion valve or drier.

I agree with ES6T. Since you had it properly evac'd and recharged, and you know the freon didn't leak out, there's a good chance it is something minor like a pressure swtich, electrical connection, etc. Look at it as if you don't know the work that was just done to it and see where that leads.

I never buy rebuilt AC compressor. You never know what Chinese parts are in there. I only use new Denso compressor.

New compressors are pretty cheap now, much better bet. That said, you need to tell us whether or not the compressor is running. It might just be unplugged for all we know. Or blew a fuse.

If not a leak as noted and it worked for a couple of days, I'd expect the electrical connections to be good. I've never opened up a system without replacing the drier, and purging the system, as most mfgs require.
Any update yet?
