creaking noise
hey guys i have a creaking kind of noise coming from the front end of the truck i can hear it when I'm at a dead stop if I'm say about to make a u turn and let up off the brake. so i would assume its somehow associated with the steering. now i already checked the power steering fluid and its fine and i just recently had my front brake pads replaced and when i told my mech. about the noise it didn't happen then (kind of made me look like a nut why dose that happen?) anyway volvo gods please bless me with your knowledge and guidance.
Our XC90 also had a groaning / creaking sound that came from the left front wheel area. It only happened at low speeds, and only when turning the wheel hard to the right. It started right after we had the vehicle in for service and had the tires rotated about a year ago, at which time they had done a number of maintenance checks.
We didn’t do anything about the creak / groan right away because it only did it at near-locked turns to the right, and otherwise drove fine and made no noise. When we did go back to the dealer for a maintenance visit in October we complained of the problem.
The service advisor told us the creak / groan we heard when the wheel was at near-locked to the right was the rotor backing plate contacting the rotor. I’m not sure how simply rotating the tires could have caused the groan, or what they could have done in routine maintenance to cause this rubbing to start happening, but when we picked it up the next day it was all fixed and done at no charge.
Maybe when you had your front brakes replaced they ended up creating a similar interference like we experienced? Since it started right after your front brakes were replaced I’d suggest having them look at it and (hopefully) repair it at their cost.
Hope this helps in some way.
