Default Dashboard lights came on, no reaction on gas-pedal

Started my car, was running ok. after a few minutes , abs lights came up, brake light came up, message with anti skid was disabled, than red light power issue. motor was still running but no reaction on gas pedal. Airbag light was on as well. Any suggestions before I bring it in. car has 250K on it. XC90 2008

Default Likely failing or failed alternator

Sounds like a failing alternator. What's the charge status of your battery as well. You could get that checked out. For the alternator, take the negative terminal off while the car is running, and see if it continues to run.

If that is done to a modern car and the alternator is charging - a voltage spike could occur and damage something expensive. The battery acts as a capacitor absorbing spikes. That was a somewhat valid test years ago - particularly when cars had generators and no electronics to fry.

I agree with your statement that the test may not be suitable for more electronically-composed cars today. My recommendation though, was in the context of the OP's P2 XC90.

A 2008 xc90 has 20 or so modules (computers) CAN, LIN and Most networked together. Even the alternator is on a LIN network.

I would not want to accidentally induce a voltage spike in any Volvo after about 1998. And would not intentionally disconnect a battery on Any car running with an alternator.

But - your mileage may vary.

Fair enough. Pleased to make your acquaintance. Cheers 🤝🏾

Started the next day and everything seems normal. Very weird. So far no issues. No codes showed up on my reader.
Will keep a close eye on it.

Thanks for the reaction.
