Driver display went dark

Hi. New to forum, but not a new Volvo auto owner.
Purchased a 2016 XC90 Inscription in December 2015. I use the vehicle almost exclusively to travel interstate trips 250 miles a week. Currently I have 100,100 miles on odo. Two weeks ago the driver display went completely dark...nothing would show. Took the vehicle to dealer where purchased for diagnosis. They checked software, battery output and other options but nothing worked. A replacement was all they could do. Fortunately they had a display in stock (another customer had the same issue and they ordered two displays then) so it was swapped out to the tune of $2,600!
This seems to me to be a safety issue. Maybe if others have this fault NTSB would do something about it.
