Default Driving in snow

Hello everyone!

Just bought my 2004 XC90 a few weeks ago. Absolutely love it.

I live in Pittsburgh, and we just got hammered with about 2 feet of snow. I have the 2.5L (?) AWD, but I've been getting stuck a good bit. I turn off the DSTC button, and turn on the winter mode, but it seems as though only the front wheels seems to be pulling the car along. Do I have to engage AWD somehow?

Thanks!

Nolan

If i'm not mistaking all power is sent to the front wheels unless the system senses wheel slip, if not it's like an 80/20 distribution or something. There is nothing to engage on your part, system is completely automatic. Likely a sensor has failed. I've made it a habit to test mine every few weeks, usually trying to blow the tires from a stop sign when it is wet- should be very little slip. we took on some snow / ice here in Atlanta this past weekend, the awd system can make for a quite entertaining drive!
