I have a 2017 XC 90 t8 with adaptive cruise control. I had an unfortunate encounter this weekend with a deer which took out my front grille and the associated sensor. It will be awhile before I can get this fixed and I’m trying to figure out the function of the sensor. From what I can find online it is a camera, radar and provides various unspecified functions,
from what I can tell my adaptive cruise control still functions (I think there is also data from the windshield sensors)
What functions am I missing by not having this front grille sensor/camera
The local grille sensor/camera in your 2017 XC90 T8 contributes to critical safety features like adaptive cruise control, collision detection, and pedestrian detection. While adaptive cruise control may still function with other sensors, features like precise following distances, collision warnings, and emergency braking may be compromised. The sensor likely aids in lane-keeping assistance and traffic sign recognition as well.
For a complete assessment and to ensure optimal safety features, it is crucial to have the damaged sensor replaced by a qualified Volvo service center. Contact with local dealership for advice and consider temporary diagnostic scans for insights into the current functionality of safety features.
