Default Happy with your XC90?

A few months ago I bought a new 2007 XC90, inline 6. So far, I love the car and have had no problems. After reading some of the problems folks have had on this forum, I'm wondering if I made a big mistake. Is anyone happy with his/her XC90 and experiencing relatively few problems? Appreciate your feedback.

Getting mine in about 2 weeks' time. Also a 3.2 inline6 AWDmodel. Let's compare notes if you don't mind.

Be glad to compare notes. Ours is also AWD. It's my wife's car, and so far she is thrilled with it. We traded our 2004 S-60, which was also a good car, but a little cramped in the rear seats.

I was stopped at a light when a car slammed into my xc90 doing about 40+mph. Thank God I was in an XC90. His car was totaled and my car received hardly any body damage on the outside and minor body damage behind the back bumper. I bought my 2004 with about 49K in Jan.07. I have put about 9000 miles on the car so far and have had no major issues with the car except for excessive tire wear on the rear tires. The dealer aligned the rear and put new tires on at no charge and the tires seem to be wearing fine. After the accident, the tire wear was a small price to pay. I will be picking my car up from the body shop next week. Would I buy another XC90? YES! (so far)
Enjoy your new car!

Have been running an XC90 since it first came out (wifes is the T6 version). Had some minor issues with the front brakes and a front wheel bearing early on that was replaced under warranty. No other problems since. A very practical car, for which I have recently ignited my love for after some nice modifications to the car. It now runs far better, and not only serves as the family mule, but also provides me with some fun on the roads. One of the most practical 7 seaters around with safety features in abundance, and not bad to drive with a couple of modifications.

Mine is a 2005 XC90 and I'm very happy with it. We also have an S40 SE. No complaints here.

I purchased my 07 XC90 3.2 few days ago without coming here to read all the negative about this car first.

I did some research and read some reviews at edmunds.com and kbb.combefore the purchase, and it seems like most owners are satisfied with the their XC90s. I have a 6 speed with 3.2 engine, as I read the MSRP sticker, the transmission is 100% from Japan, and hope my transmission is not the one (T6) 4 speed built by GM with many problems.

So far, I love the ride, comfort and safety of the XC90.

Had mine for 2 months now. Nothing major to report except some little squeakingnoise from the instrument panel assembly. Believe this can be fixed easily during next dealer visit. In case you guys are getting thosenew ones with brushed aluminum panels on the centre console, you may want to treat them with care. They get dent quite easily and very expensive to replace.

Default RE: Happy with your XC90?

Since you asked, here is my experience so far:

I need some advice, I have never own a Volvo before so I thought I can get some advice here, here is the timeline:
23 Jun 07-Went to the volvo dealership as I was told that it's ready for pick up. Sales rep did an good job explaining to me the features of my XC90. After the initial tour of my car, the sales rep got the car out of the showroom for me. As I got in the car I noticed the check engine light on, before he could go back in the showroom I called him to tell him that the check engine light is on. It only had 32 miles and he told me that it was probably because the battery was a bit low, he told me just to drive it over the weekend and that it should just go off. He also told me that If it still on by Monday, to call him back so he can book it for an appointment.

25 Jun 07-Monday- Went back to the dealership and told them that the light was still on, sales rep book me for an appointment with the service center that supposedly did the final delivery check. This time I'm already a bit disaapointed, paid $41,200 for a car that has to go to the service center the 3rd day I owned it.

26 Jun 07- Dropped the car off, and told the technician of the problem.
27 Jun 07- Technician called me back and told me that on board computer was not able to tell them the actual code and that maybe because the battery was low so it triggered the check engine light. This is hard for me to believe considering a check engine light together with the on board computer should narrow down the problem by flashing a specific codes. Technician reset the OBD but cannot guarantee me that the light won't come on again. Picked it up the same day.
28 Jun 07- The car stayed home pretty much the same day-I decided to take for a drive with the kids-not before long the CEL came on again. Called the sales rep and the service center. Technician told me to book it again for another appointment.
02 Jul 07-This is the first day they had an appointment available for me, brought the car in-told the tech about the problem. Technician told they might have to do a bit more research. Now this is a brand new car with barely 100 miles on it and in the service center the second time for the same problem.

05 Jul 07- Technician called me and told me that it is now fixed and that they had to replaced the 02 sensor. I was happy and glad they ahd figured out the problem. But not too happy the fact that it is a brand new vehicle and already ahd to replaced a damn sensor.
6 Jul 07 Decided to drive it to work, low and behold light came on again. This time i'm pissed, again the price that I paid for the vehicle and problem that it already has. Called the sales rep (always kept him in the loop) and the service tech, pretty much told them that I'm very dissatisfied. Had to book it gain for another appointment (3rd time).

13 Jul 07-Car stayed in the house the whole time, dropped it off again on this day.

25 Jul 07-Service center has informed me that they had been in contact with the factory and was doing some testing since they could not figured out what is causing the problem. They had also asked if they could drive it and put some miles on it as part of the testing. They also told me that real cause of the CEL light coming on is "engine running too rich". They had pulled the manifold and the injectors and everything was fine, also replaced seal. Now again, this is a brand new car, is this the quality that you get from VOLVO? Technician told me that they had reset the OBD, but again could not guarantee me that they had fixed the problem. In other words they have not fixed it and just want me to drive it hoping that the light will not come on.

Now what are my options? I am not willing to drop a vehicle.., that I pad a high price.., every 2 weeks for the same problem that the service center cannot fixed. I am very frustrated and told the sales rep that I'm going to demand a replacement. I know I took delivery of the car but the problem started before I even drove it. The only reason that I took delivery was because the sales rep told me it was okay to drive it. I am willing to fight and maybe et a lawyer because in reality I did not do anything wrong and the vehicle has not given me anything but. Vehicle has less than 500 miles, been to the service center 3 times for the same problem in less than 3 weeks that I owned it. Can someone give thoughts on this.

Yes, I am very pleased with my 2007 XC90 V8. I took factory delivery of it November, 2006, in Gothenberg, Sweden. So far, I have put on 7,000 miles, and actually just picked it up from it's first service. I did read this column well before I purchased the vehicle, and was well aware of some of the complaints people had with this vehicle. Just so you know, I have not had ANY of those problems with my car. Everything works quite well, including the "Active Headlights". My car has almost every option, excluding the DVD monitor entertainment system in the headrests. I drive it on the autobahn frequently, most of the time cruising at 80 mph, and I have driven it to the speed limiter, 120 mph. But, most of the time, I am normally driving it here in the city. I really like the overall design of the car - simple and well laid out, rather than over-technical. I test drove the Grand Cherokee Limited, BMW X5, and this car of course. The way the XC90 drives, itfeels more like a car. It doesn't feel big, and the hood does not sit so high. The ride is very smooth, controls are firm, and interior is quiet. I haven't had any problems whatsoever, nothing has broke, no unusual noises, no warning lights. The V8 has a ton of acceleration when needed and makes the engine growl a bit, but during normal driving it is quiet. The seats are also great because theyactually seem to adjust to a comfortable sitting position. No regrets at all with this XC90.

I have and '04 XC90 T6 and so far it hasn't had any major problems...knock on wood. I had the michelin tires replaced at 15,000 miles due to excessive wear on the outside and replaced them with Pirelli Scorpions (and expensive mistake), currently shopping for new tires. I also had the 6-disc cd changer replaced at 25,000 miles after a cd got stuck inside (under warranty). Then I had the latch and pulley replaced on the third row seats after one of the seat's headrest wouldn't fold down (warranty). Now the car stinks like mildew after it's been washed or been sitting in the rain. This occurs when the a/c is on and neither I nor the dealership cannot find the cause of the smell. Any suggestions?

Overall the car drives well, it has a great turning radius and steering is perfect (not too loose or rigid). It can be difficult to see out of the back windows esp. when changing lanes, but most suvs are like this. The back-up sensors help a lot, I recommend them. Volvo makes some of the most comfortable seats so long road trips aren't too noticeable. I get about 17 mpg mixed hwy and city, not great. Overall, I give the XC90 an 8.5 out of 10.

Very UNHAPPY with the 2005 XC90 (T6 AWD). At 51,000 miles, it has stranded me seven times during the past six months (won't start -- computer problem that the dealer attributes to my specific vehicle). Repeated tows/trips to the dealer have resulted in them scratching their heads. Meeting with dealershipto determine appropriate compensation torid me of this bad apple.

2008xc90,

Your problem is a legal one. I the dealer refuses to put their utmost attention to your car, if you know a lawyer, send them a demand letter onthe lawyer's letterhead and see your car get fixed in a jiffy. This sort of thing always happens in the Philippines. I think it is a simple problem, if the o2 sensor was "really fixed", you wouln't know right? Assuming it is really fixed, the only problem that remains is a foreign matterin the fuel line. Like water or oil or sludge, etc. Also, don't fill the tank to the brim. Allow the gas pump nozzle to stop automatically only. Hope this helps.

We picked up our 2006 2.5 FWD with 18K miles about four months ago and could not be much happier. The car is solid and handles great. We downsized a bit from an expedition and enjoy not having that "bohemuth" in the garage. We really enjoy it. The 2.5 is not the peppiest,it has to be pusheda little sometimes. I feel good knowing wife and kids are about as safe as can be.

In most US states the "lemmon law" would apply if the dealer is unable to fix the problem after 3 attempts. If so, the dealer would likely provide you a new replacement at no additional charge.
