HID upgrade possible despite DRL?
I own a 2006 XC90 withOUT factory Xenon/HID. I want to replace the halogen low beam headlight with an aftermarket HID kit (bulbs, ballasts, etc). BUT the low beam is currently used for DRL, so is "ON" all the time.
Anyway to add aftermarket HID with this scenario?
thanks

I have the Hid's in my 850 and the DRL are on all the time.
If you really wanted to you can go to the Dealer and have them disable them. But it will cost you.

Are your HID's aftermarket? So did you just replace the factory halogen low beam with a HID kit?
Any false triggering of warning light on dash?
I have no desire to delete my DRL function, and wouldn't mind if the DRL's are HID.
I was under the assumption that the Volvo low beamDRL function at a lowervoltage than when the usual low beam headlights are"ON" at night (that's the way it is on BMW's highbeam is DRL but at reduced voltage). If this is true, I was afraid of triggering dash warning light due to lower voltage draw.
Perhaps I am wrong.
Also, In a recent 'search', I read that to prevent triggering warning light on dash, that a 55Watt (not 35W) HID kit needs to to be used. Is this true?
Thanks

Yes mine are aftermarket.
It might trigger a false bulb out light but if you look at this link they found a way around it.

I believe but may be wrong but the only ones that are like you described are the ones with factory HID's. The HID's shut off during the day.
Not sure about the 35 watt kit.
