Default High beam headlights will not turn off unless battery is disconnected or fuses pulled

Hello,

2006 XC90 V8. As the subject states the high beam headlights will not turn off unless the battery is disconnected or the fuses in the CEM are removed. These headlights are the normal lights not the self leveling xenon lights.

The low beams function normally and all the other functions of the dash/cluster work and are back lit appropriately. When pulling the stalk to activate the high beam lights the blue indicator light comes on the dash.

1) I replaced the high beam stalk and the problem continued.
2) I replaced the chip board module that the stalk plugs into in the column (module located under the clockspring/SAS) and the problem continued.
3) I disconnected the actual rotary light switch located to the left of the steering wheel and that was no help.
4) I disconnected the the ignition switch and several other modules located in the column and that was no help as well.

The only way to shut them off was pulling the fuses in the CEM (one fuse for each light D/P). To my understanding there is not a replaceable relay for the high beams in this vehicle which makes me wonder if the CEM is the problem?

Anyone think of something I missed checking?

Thank you

I'm having the same problem. Replaced the stalk and CEM and still having the same problem. Any luck with the fix?

If you have HID bulbs ("self leveling" headlamps) those "high beams" are daytime running lamps, not "high beams".

You "replaced the CEM" - with what?

I got a used CEM had it cloned and reinstalled it. The problem stayed exactly the same. This is a 2004 and the high beams stay on even with the key out of the ignitition and the directionals do not work. I replaced the stalk with a new oem stalk.

If you have HID bulbs - the inner bulbs are Daytime running lamps, not High beams. They are also the "flash to pass" lights. HID bulbs are not used (when off) to Flash - it takes too long for them to warm up.

So - Your front daytime running lamps are on all the time unless you remove fuses 30 and 31 - the rear daytime running lamps (rear parking lights) are not on, your turn signals don't work and you replaced the TS switch. Do your emergency flashers work?
This info is relevant for a 2004 - the OP had a 2006 with a different wiring scheme.
The TS switch plugs into the steering wheel module. The SWM takes all the signals from the steering wheel, converts them into a bus signal and sends that to the CEM. I would spend some time with a compatible scan tool investigating those signals. What codes are present in the CEM? Below is a description for one of the swm codes showing possible faults. Has someone installed a used SWM?

There is a relay on the CEM for the daytime running lights - but that won't solve your turn signal problem.

The flashers do work but not the directionals. I don't believe they are daytime running lights as the highbeam indicator is on also.

I brought it to the dealer and they said it was the CEM but the replacement did nothing. Does it need to be programmed to the car with the VIDA system?

If you have HID bulbs in the outer headlamps, the Inner are Daytime running lamps. In the wiring diagram posted earlier - the wires going to the DRLs have DRL written above them.
If you flash the lights by pulling the turn signal sw back - yes it will turn the high beam indicator on.

If you had your CEM "cloned" (who did that?) The programming should have been transferred. If someone like xemodex did that for you - I would believe it was done correctly. A VIDA subscription can "program" a NEW CEM, or update the CEM that's "paired" to the car. VIDA can't "program" a USED CEM to work in another car.

As mentioned earlier - instruction on the canbus for both of those functions are transferred through the steering wheel module. Are there any other functions controlled on the steering wheel or ts/wiper switch not working? (cruise, radio controls , wiper, etc)

What codes are stored?

002 read button and 003 high beam both permanent faults.

Do you think its the SWM?

What scan tool/method did the 002/003 come from?

Who "cloned" your CEM?

Are there any other functions controlled on the steering wheel or ts/wiper switch not working? (cruise, radio controls , wiper, etc)

ACS Marshfield MO

Radio controls, directionals, high beam, selector dial switch only works in one direction.

Not sure about Cruise.
