2004 XC-90 with about 68,000 miles. It is getting more and more difficult to remove the ignition key. This started a few weeks ago. Is this a common Volve problem, and does anyone have any ideas about a fix without going to a dealer?

 

Try spraying a little bit of WD-40 in there and see if it helps.

 

My V70 sometimes does not want to release the key.

It appears to be related to the gear shifter, it does not want to let the key go in any position other then park. If the button does not pop out all the way, I have to push it in a little and let it come back out before the key will slide out easily.
