Looking at an '04 T6
I usually try to stay away from things built in the first year of production, but I trust Volvo. There is a 2004 XC 90 with about 220,000 Kms [137,500 miles] on it I am looking at buying for a very good price. This would be in addition to our family 1999 V70, I would never buy anything but a Volvo. I am a bit concerned as it appears from the sites I buy parts from that XC 90 parts are more difficult to find than the V70. I use FCP for most my parts. There will undoubtedly be some things that I need to rebuild with that kind of milage. Near 100 kms [60 miles] a day for the life of the Truck! I am a novice doing all of my fixing and tuning on the weekends. I have rebuilt the back end of the V70 and will be rebuilding the front end next month. How difficult are these trucks to work on? What are some better websites for finding suspension and mechanical parts? Where there any common issues with the first production run I should check out before buying? All I know is I know very little at this point, any info is welcomed. I will keep fishing through the forum for information. Thank you.
Hi there,
Do not buy a T6, instead get a 2.5T or a 3.2, you will save a lot of headache.
The T6 has a bad GM transmission. Also what do you expect from a car with 220.000 KM. on ? it's not fun.
We will help you if you change your mind, we are all loyal to volvo.
Good Luck.

The transmission itself is fine, with the motor it was originally designed for, 3800 Chevy. But yes, the transmissions in the T6 have a higher failure rate. The 4T65-GT is right on it design edge with the torque that he T6 puts out. Proceed with extreme caution.
