Looking at a used XC90; a little help, please!
We are considering a used XC90 as a replacement for our '01 Pathfinder (recently totaled in an accident.) Couple of questions for the forum. First, it's a 2007 V8, 15k miles, CPO, pretty well loaded (DVD, Navigation, HID lights) and dealer is asking $39500, which seems pretty high to me; anyone with a recent purchase experience that can weigh in on a reasonable price? Second, am I going to miss the low range gearing and off-road capability of the Pathfinder? Even though 95% or more of our driving is on paved roads, I did use the Pathfinder for fishing, skiing, etc, with some of it on fairly bad roads. Is the suspension up to such use? That is my biggest reservation, (although it will be my wife's daily driver, so her vote outweighs mine!) Thanks in advance for any advice!

I think for a 2007, that's a decent price, considering the options you mention. I bought a 2004 T-6 (twin turbo) in 2006 and it had 23,000 miles on it and they wanted 35,000 and i think I got for 32-33,000, can't remember exactly. It's a heavy safe feeling car but it's not fuel effiecent. We have small kids that's why I bought it. Mine is AWD too. Hope this helps.

Hi, welcome to the forum,
The price doesn't sound bad given the options. You can always doa quick check online at Kelly Blue Book for your area (kbb.com) and see how they compare. Also, given the auto market these days, you may be able to haggle a bit more
Definitely go with the V8 in terms of performance and reliability, and believe it or not, fuel economy too! We have a 2005 with the V8 AWD and average 21.5 mpg. (Others with the 5 and 6 cylinder models talk about poorer mileage here on the board, getting14-16 mpg mileage!)
Can't comment on offroading capabilities, as we never do any offroading with ours. The XC90 is sucha nice luxuryvehicle though, that you mayget to the point where you don't want to get it scratched and dinged up thatoffroading may cause.
Good luck!

Definitely go for the V8 which has a great 6 speed transmision. With the right tires it does fine in deep snow and on ice but it is certainly not an offroader (stay away from sand and riverbeds). I do miss the transfer case some times. We considered selling/trading oursbecause we're moving to Europe (trading for the XC60), howver several dealers said they couldn't offer more than 28K (with 40K miles) because it is getting more difficult to sell V8's andSUVs.Based on that I would suggest you give the dealer a lowball offer (less than 35K) and see what they say. There are lots of XC90'sout there for sale. We love ourXC90 and decied to keep it for now. Good luck.

Thanks for everybody's input so far. After a little more research, I am not too concerned about the offroad ability; ground clearance and approach/departure angles were my biggest concerns. I know it won't crawl through deep snow with out the low range gearing, but as long as it will go up rough mountain roads it will meet 99% of my needs. Just looking at the inventory on Volvo's CPO website, I still think their list price is on the high side, but if we proceed it never hurts to make a low offer (you won't get it if you don't ask!) Anyone else with input feel free to jump in, and thanks again for everyone's help.
