BLUF: '08 XC90 3.2l after sitting for a day, A/C blows hot for 5-15 minutes, then blows ice cold. Compressor was replaced in April of this year for this sympton. 3 months later same sympton, dealer added 1/2# of freon and dye, found no leaks, then did a software update on ECM. Still same sympton. Dealer states a solenoid on the compressor is faulty. Dealerships troubleshooting skills are questionable.

In your opinions, do you feel that dealership has narrowed down the problem to this solenoid, or are they just guessing by changing parts?

If they repaired the AC a few months ago, there should be some kind of warranty on it. Are they wanting to charge you for the service? Maybe the changed the compressor in error, or the new compressor is going bad.

 

Compressor was changed under warranty, which expired 2 weeks later, and my dealer says volvo will not warranty parts that were changed under warranty. This is why I need some advice here!

 

What is the name of the solenoid and what is it that they told you it does that it makes the AC not come on right away ??
