Smile Is a new XC90 a good choice?

Hello

Thanks in advanced for your feedback.

Having owned a number of Volvos over the years I always enjoyed their solidness and comfort.

I currently own a BMW coupe which I absolutely love to drive, but the reality is that I am driving it less and less due to our absolutely terrible road surface conditions. Driving it at night on unfamiliar roads is like playing Russian roulette as you never know where the next two foot pot hole is going to strike! The UK government should be utterly ashamed of what they have let our roads become, especially when you consider the amount of fuel and road tax we pay – it’s nothing short of criminal!

Unfortunately, I have now reached the point of looking to sell the BMW for a good diesel SUV.

I have short listed the following:

• Volvo XC90
• Land Rover Discovery 2
• Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have discounted BMW, Audi & Mercedes as their SUVs seem to be more bling, bling with 20” wheels and low profile tyres, hardly designed for our current third world road conditions.

I’m also not after a true off roading farm working 4x4, but rather want a refined and comfortable ride on the street and something that is confident in the snow.

Based on everyone’s experience, is a new XC90 a good choice? Also what percentage dealer discounts are currently achievable for the XC90?

Many thanks

The XC90 is good choice for you.
The XC90 has been designed to be as car-like as possible. The ride quality is very soft and smooth, soaking up city center surfaces impressively well. This does mean it rolls through corners and can feel more ponderous than a regular estate car, but the balance isn't bad for one so large - though the steering is very over-assisted.The XC90 may be longer, taller and wider than the V70 estate car, but it still occupies significantly less road space than any luxury model.

Thanks, I’m definitely going to go for the XC90 D5 Exec.

I know what you mean about it being very car like to drive, which is what I’m after. Something to cruse the motorways in comfort and soak up the potholes on the side roads!

I’m waiting to start negotiations on a new MY2011 once the spec is confirmed and the order books are reopened. Just hoping for the good discounts that the MY2010’s were achieving.
