Hi everyone, I am trying to help a friend of mine that's stuck away from home with this problem. It is an '05 AWD T6. They went on the sand and had to be pulled because the rear wheels have no traction. He also says there is a bit of a rattle at the front but not sure if that's related or not. Anyway, they called Volvo and got no tips on what they could/should do about this besides of telling them that they need to only have a Volvo dealer look at this and that it was expensive.
The car just went out of warranty. It has about 51k miles.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be? Would the 3 hour drive back make the problem worse? Other than no rear traction and a rattle noise, it is running ok.

Did they complain to the Dealer in the past about the noise? If it isn't grinding then maybe the trip would be fine.

 

Thank you Tech. This is the first time they heard the noise so it was never brought up to the dealer.
I am thinking maybe they should've turned the DSTC off while trying to move on the sand. Looking at the owners' manual it is suggested to do so if they are having problems. Thank you for your help.
