I have a 2021 XC90 R-Design with the Bowers and Wilkins sound system. I heard a loud pop (power surge maybe) then no sound. No radio sound, no phone sound, no blinker sound, no parking sensor alert sound. Everything still functions just no sound. The nearest Volvo dealer is 1.5 hours one way. I’m thinking amp or amp fuse? Does the amp have a fuse? I don’t see it listed in the fuse diagrams.

 

on other XC models the fuse for the amp was different from the head unit and disply. If you display comes on but no sound then its likely to be the amp's fuse located in the rear cargo area (ie on a 2017 XC60 its in the cargo area's module D) - I'd expect the XC90 to be similarly wired.

 

HI - I have the exact problem with the B&W sound system, Was driving along listening to the radio then heard a loud crackle and smoke started coming out from behind the volume control ****. Quite a lot of it. I stopped the car as I thought it was going to go up in flames (it didn't). Now I have no sound at all. No radio, No sat nav. No Blinker sound. No parking sensors. Basically....no sound at all.

Before I phone my dealer I was curious if you managed to fix yours and what parts needed replacing.

I am absolutely fed up with my xc90. I've had so many problems with it from new.

 

did you do some basic checks for blown fuses and whether there's sound for other choices of input selections? A car stereo is similar to a home component system - you have a head unit with preamp/ radio tuner, CD player etc, there's a power amp, and there's antenna amps. The bluetooth integration is also its own module. The modules have digital controls so in newer cars, the interfaces are fiber vs copper (which is why finding aftermarket radios is a bygone era). The modules may be on different fuse circuits so you'll want to read up on the fuses and their location in the car and if you are handy, you can check connectors and test to make sure power and ground are good. Given the noise and smoke, its likely you fried a component in the head unit and the dealer will simply swap that out and do whatever reprogramming is required.

PS - I had to laugh when you asked what the other poster found to be wrong with his car to determine what was wrong with yours. Reminded me of an old Woody Allen sketch called "Eggs Benedict" (you can find on YouTube). :-)
