Question PLEASE HELP!!! I don't know what parts to order!

I have a 2006 Volvo XC90. Recently, I had a little run in with a mailbox, which ended up badly damaging my passenger side mirror. The Volvo dealership quoted me $675.00 for a complete new one, but I think I could get by with just a cover. The motor on the mirror is still working and so is the light. I have attached a few photos. Can someone please let me know what they think and if I do need parts, can you recommend a good place to buy the parts? Also, I know I need to replace the mirror also, I have tried to remove the old broken mirror, but I can't figure out how to disconnect the mirror from the base. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!

Try a used parts seller, aka junkyard. Also Ebay

You have to remove thedoor panel and do most of your repair from inside trick is to get the mirror and base off of the door first.

Is the cover available separately? I doubt it.

Was the dealer quote $675.00 for the part only, or part plus installation?

To find a used mirror assembly, check car-part.com. The going rate for a used mirror assembly for your car is about $300. Probably because there are lots of mirror-hungry mailboxes out there and so this part is in demand. For the replacement procedure you'll have to get your hands on a factory repair manual or buy a subscription to alldatadiy.com. You can get a 3 month subscription for $9.95.

Thanks for all the suggestions! @ migbro- The quoted price was for parts & labor. Funny thing though, I think there are many mirror-hungry mailboxes out there because since it happened I have noticed lots of passenger side mirrors broken! Thanks for the suggestion for car-parts.com, I think that is where I will order it. Thanks again!

It's car-part.com. No s. This is a nationwide database of auto recycler inventory. Take care to buy a mirror that has the same options as yours and in the correct color.

It's really to sad to know that the mirror has been damaged and it needs now additional repair. Do you think that only cover is available! Don't listen to the dealer. Yes true you should ask him the cost is only for the part or for the onstalltion both. He is befooling you regarding the cost. The best option is just get the mirror from ebay.com.
