I am from Europe and actually living in Sweden. My 2016 XC90 First Edition D5 had exactly the same issue at 2021 with the original headlight after being working well for the first 5 years and 140 000km. Got exactly the same codes so I bought a used light that had been driven only 15 000km. Replaced it and all worked nice until 3 weeks ago when I noticed the same issue(haven't read the codes yet, but same symptoms again).
As it seems to be a problem with the driver side light only for many cars I will now start the fault finding on my own since at dealership they did all possible checks and are unable to find what could cause this problem. Since I kept the old light ( all the different modules attached to it) I will try to open up the light itself and also the different modules to see if there is any indications of overheating or bad connection inside the light. Obviously it will be tricky since that headlight is so well glued together, but hopefully with reasonable oven heating will help a bit. Under the light on that side I cant recall any elements that could get hot so it sure is some internal item that is causing it and maybe its something of the module location compared to the other side lihgt. If I do get somewhere with this check I will let you guys know.
Of course since it is the 2016 version then now it is not possible to buy such light anymore(they changed the modules and setup of the light) so 2 brand new lights must be bought if 1 fails and that would be probably around 3000 $ which just seems robbery thats what I was told at the dealership. There is less modules on the new version. Sockets are the same as i understood so the new version will fit, but still the figure is awful to be honest.
